Frequently Asked Questions

How is a pipe groove made?

When making grooved joining systems (grooved couplings) the pipe groove is made by machining a groove into the ends of two pipes. A gasket is placed around the pipe ends, the housings wrap around the gasket and sit within the pipe grooves, and the bolts and nuts are tightened using a wrench.

What is a Victaulic Connection?

Victaulic pipe couplings are used to connect pipes of various pipe materials across multiple fire protection, industrial and commercial applications. Victaulic offers a selection of couplings including rigid, flexible, shouldered, transition, reducing, and plain end pipe joining couplings.

Why use a Victaulic grooved pipe joint?

The grooved system eliminates the need for complete system shutdowns because there is no need to drain and dry the system, and an arc or flame is not required to disassemble or reassemble the joint. As a result, buildings can return to full operating capacity very quickly.

What is a grooved pipe joint?

A grooved pipe joint (also known as a grooved coupling or a grooved joining system) consists of the grooved pipe, the gasket, the coupling housings and the required nuts & bolts.

What are the benefits of grooved pipe joints / grooved joining systems?

The 5 main benefits of grooved joining systems (grooved pipe joints) are:

1. Ease and speed of installation
2. Accommodation system expansion and contraction
3. Reduced total installed cost
4. Safer jobsites
5. Less downtime
